What is laminated glass?

Laminated glass is made from two or more layers of ordinary glass permanently bonded together with a tough plastic interlayer (usually PVB — polyvinyl butyral) under heat and pressure. The glass itself isn’t specially treated, but the interlayer is what makes it a genuine safety product: if the glass breaks, the interlayer holds the fragments in place rather than letting them fall away, so the pane stays largely intact even when cracked. This same interlayer also gives laminated glass a real, measurable noise-reduction benefit over ordinary glass of the same thickness.
