The solution
We supplied and installed automatic sliding doors on the main circulation routes and hermetic sliding doors for sealed clinical areas. Hands-free operation keeps hard surfaces untouched, wide clear openings take beds and trolleys, and the hermetic units seal firmly for theatre and clean-area use.
Why hospital automatic doors are specified differently
In an office or a shop, an automatic door is mostly about convenience. In a hospital it is part of the infection-control and accessibility strategy, so the specification changes. Three requirements tend to drive the decision.
Hands-free hygiene. Every handle and push plate in a clinical corridor is a surface that has to be cleaned and a point where contamination can transfer between hands. Hospital automatic doors remove that contact entirely on the routes where it matters most.
Barrier-free movement. A hospital bed, a trolley and a wheelchair all need more clear width than a normal doorway allows, and staff moving a patient rarely have a free hand. A wide, automatically opening leaf solves both problems at once.
Sealing where it counts. Theatres, clean areas and isolation rooms need the door to close against a seal rather than simply sit in an opening – which is where hermetic units differ from a standard automatic slider.


What makes a door “hermetic”
A hermetic sliding door closes onto a compressible gasket so the gap around the leaf is sealed when shut, instead of leaving the small clearance a conventional sliding door runs on. That seal is what allows a room to hold a pressure differential and keeps airborne contamination from moving freely between a theatre and the corridor outside it. It is the reason hermetic units are specified for operating theatres, clean areas and isolation rooms, and why they are not simply a more expensive version of a standard automatic door.
Safety, sensors and compliance
Automatic entrances in a healthcare building run unattended around the clock, so the safety devices matter as much as the operator. Presence and motion sensors hold the door open while someone is still in the opening, safety beams guard the closing edge, and the operator is specified to be serviceable rather than sealed. Keeping hospital automatic doors running
An entrance that opens several hundred times a day is a mechanical system, and it needs to be treated like one. Sensors drift out of alignment, floor tracks collect grit, and seals on hermetic units wear. We install these systems and can keep them serviced afterwards, which matters more in a hospital than in most buildings – a failed door on a theatre corridor is not something that can wait for the next maintenance window.
