Aluminium sliding door sizes in South Africa follow a standard grid: widths from 1 500 to 7 500 mm and heights of 2 100, 2 400 or 2 700 mm, in 2, 3, 4 and 6 panel layouts. Knowing the grid before you build or renovate saves money, because a standard size is made in 1–2 days at a catalogue price. This guide sets out the standard sizes for every Coetz™ sliding range, how to read them, and how to choose the right one.

How aluminium sliding door sizes are written
A size such as 2 400 × 2 100 mm means 2 400 mm wide by 2 100 mm high. That is the catalogue, or opening, size. The actual frame is 10 mm smaller each way, so a 2 400 × 2 100 mm door has a frame of 2 390 × 2 090 mm. The gap leaves room for packing and sealing. See how to measure aluminium doors.
Standard widths by panel layout
| Layout | Standard widths |
|---|---|
| 2 panel | 1 500 to 3 000 mm |
| 3 panel | 1 800 to 4 500 mm (2 400 mm upwards on some ranges) |
| 4 panel | 3 000 to 6 000 mm |
| 6 panel | 4 500 to 7 500 mm |
More panels let a wider opening use lighter, easier-to-slide panels, which is why aluminium sliding door sizes above 3 000 mm move to 3, 4 or 6 panels. See sliding door configurations for what each layout looks like.

Standard heights by range
| Range | Heights |
|---|---|
| Patio | 2 100 and 2 400 mm |
| StormSeal | 2 100 and 2 400 mm |
| Elite | 2 100, 2 400 and 2 700 mm |
| Premier | 2 100, 2 400 and 2 700 mm |
| Premier Multi | 2 100, 2 400 and 2 700 mm |
| Horizon | 2 100, 2 400 and 2 700 mm |
2 100 mm is the most common height among aluminium sliding door sizes in South African homes. Taller doors suit double-volume rooms and modern houses with high ceilings. Not every width is offered at every height, so check the product page for the exact size.

Choosing the right size
- Measure the opening in three places across and three up, and use the smallest readings.
- Pick the nearest standard size that fits, allowing for the 10 mm frame reduction.
- Choose the layout: 2 panel up to 3 000 mm, 3 or 4 panel for wider openings, 6 panel for the widest.
- Choose the height: 2 100 mm for most homes, 2 400 or 2 700 mm for taller openings.
- Check the range: only Elite, Premier, Premier Multi and Horizon go to 2 700 mm.
On a new build, ask your builder to form the opening to one of the standard aluminium sliding door sizes. It is cheaper than making the door fit an odd opening.
Sizes for renovations
When replacing an old steel or timber sliding door, measure the existing opening after the old frame is out, not the old door. Old frames were often made to imperial sizes, so the opening may sit between two standard aluminium sliding door sizes. Pick the nearest size below and pack the gap, rather than cutting into brickwork.
What if my opening is not a standard size?
If the opening is narrower or lower than the nearest standard size by a few millimetres, the installer packs and seals the gap. If it is far out, the opening can be built in or the door made to order; see Coetz™ Custom. Fixed sidelights can also fill extra width: see aluminium doors with sidelights.
