In this guide
Planning for the North West maize belt climate
Aluminium windows and doors Lichtenburg buyers should plan for hot summers with afternoon thunderstorms and hail, cold, dry winters with hard frost, and dust on windy days. Three practical choices follow:
- Top hung windows can stay open in light rain, so rooms stay ventilated through summer storms. See top hung aluminium windows.
- Keep dust out of the tracks. Vacuum sliding window and door tracks often in the dry months so grit does not wear the rollers.
- Let in the winter sun. North-facing windows and sliding doors warm a room on cold, clear days.
Laminated safety glass holds together if summer hail cracks a pane, and aluminium frames will not warp or crack in hard frost.
