In this guide
Planning for the Free State Goldfields climate
Aluminium windows and doors Welkom buyers should plan for hot summers with afternoon thunderstorms and occasional hail, cold, dry winters with frosty mornings, and dusty wind in late winter. Three practical choices follow:
- Top hung windows can stay open in light rain, so rooms stay ventilated through summer storms. See top hung aluminium windows.
- Let the winter sun in. North-facing windows and sliding doors warm living areas on cold mornings, while a roof overhang keeps the summer sun off.
- Clean the tracks after windy spells. Late-winter dust settles in sliding tracks; vacuum it out before it wears the rollers.
Laminated safety glass holds together if hail cracks a pane, which matters on the open Free State plains.
