Black aluminium pivot doors are the statement entrance of the modern South African home: a wide glass leaf in a slim black frame that turns on a pivot instead of side hinges. Both Coetz™ pivot designs, Classic and Large Pane, come in Black powder coat. This guide covers where black aluminium pivot doors look best, what they cost compared with White, and how to match and look after them.

Why choose black aluminium pivot doors
- A bold entrance. A wide black frame around clear glass is the focal point of the front of the house.
- It frames the hallway. From outside, the dark frame draws the eye into the entrance.
- It suits modern finishes. White plaster, off-shutter concrete, face brick, timber cladding and grey roofs.
- It hides dust. Dark frames show less dust and fingerprints than White.
Where black works best
Black aluminium pivot doors suit a contemporary home, a modern farmhouse with white walls, or a renovation that wants a sharper front. On a traditional house, Bronze or Charcoal can look softer. See aluminium window colours for how the finishes compare.
Prices: Black compared with White
Black costs about 10% more than White; Bronze and Charcoal cost the same as White, and Natural Anodised about 20% more. Prices are excluding VAT, at the time of writing (October 2026).
| Door | Size (mm) | White | Black | Natural Anodised |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Large Pane | 1 200 × 2 100 | R10 494 | R11 543 | R12 593 |
| Large Pane | 1 500 × 2 400 | R12 527 | R13 780 | R15 032 |

For black aluminium pivot doors, choose Black in the colour options on the product page and the price updates. For all sizes and both designs, see aluminium pivot door designs.

Classic or Large Pane in black?
The Large Pane design in black gives the cleanest, most modern look: a large sheet of glass with a slim dark outline. The Classic design in black has more defined frame lines, which reads as bolder and suits a house with Classic windows. Both use 6.38 mm clear laminated safety glass.
Matching the house
Order black aluminium pivot doors with black windows and sliding doors so the whole front lines up. See black aluminium windows and black aluminium sliding doors. A long stainless steel pull handle contrasts well with a black frame; see aluminium pivot door handles.

Heat
On black aluminium pivot doors, a dark frame absorbs more sun than a white one, so a north- or west-facing black door warms up more to the touch. The frame is a small part of a large glass door, so a roof overhang or covered entrance does far more for comfort than the frame colour. See window energy efficiency.
Living with a black pivot entrance
A black front door is the first thing visitors notice, so keep the area around it simple: a plain mat, good lighting either side and a house number that contrasts with the wall. At night, warm lighting inside makes the glass glow against the dark frame. Keep the floor around the pivot clear, because a pivot door swings partly inside and partly outside.
Caring for black frames
Powder coat needs no painting. Wash the frame with mild soap and water a few times a year, rinse with clean water and dry with a soft cloth, because water marks show more on a dark finish. Keep the floor pivot area free of grit so the door turns smoothly.

Sizes and lock
Pivot doors come 1 200 or 1 500 mm wide, in 2 100 or 2 400 mm heights, with a roller lock included and the cylinder chosen separately. Pivot and swing doors have no cill and a standard 7 mm clearance under the leaf, so they are not weatherproof: fit them where a roof or covered entrance keeps the rain off. See aluminium door locks.

Coetz™ supplies only, so your builder or installer fits the door. We deliver across South Africa, or you can collect free from Laser Park. Glazed doors must meet SANS 10400-N, published by the South African Bureau of Standards. See the full range at aluminium pivot doors.
