Revolving door sizes are set by the internal diameter of the drum, the round enclosure the wings turn inside. The MC-RD3/4 automatic revolving door, supplied and installed by Coetz™ and MC Automations, comes in seven standard internal diameters from 1 800 to 3 600 mm, with three or four wings. This guide sets out the standard sizes, the space you need and how to choose a diameter.

In this guide
Standard revolving door sizes
| Internal diameter | Outer diameter | Total height | Clear passage height |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 800 mm | 1 888 mm | 2 500 mm | 2 200 mm |
| 2 100 mm | 2 188 mm | 2 500 mm | 2 200 mm |
| 2 400 mm | 2 488 mm | 2 500 mm | 2 200 mm |
| 2 700 mm | 2 788 mm | 2 500 mm | 2 200 mm |
| 3 000 mm | 3 088 mm | 2 500 mm | 2 200 mm |
| 3 200 mm | 3 288 mm | 2 500 mm | 2 200 mm |
| 3 600 mm | 3 688 mm | 2 500 mm | 2 200 mm |
The outer diameter is the internal diameter plus 88 mm for the drum walls. Every standard size has a total height of 2 500 mm and a clear passage height of 2 200 mm.

Revolving door sizes: what the measurements mean
- Internal diameter: the space inside the drum where people walk; this sets the compartment size.
- Outer diameter: the footprint of the whole door on the floor, including the drum walls.
- Total height: from floor to the top of the canopy.
- Clear passage height: the headroom for people walking through.
Choosing between revolving door sizes
- Smaller diameters suit offices and lobbies with steady foot traffic and little floor space.
- Larger diameters give roomier compartments for luggage, prams, trolleys and wheelchair users, which suits hotels, hospitals and shopping centres.
- Three or four wings: with the same diameter, three wings make larger compartments and four wings make more of them; see 3-wing vs 4-wing revolving doors.
- A side door: many buildings place a swing or sliding door beside a revolving door for wheelchairs, deliveries and evacuation.

Revolving door sizes and site requirements
Beyond the revolving door sizes themselves, plan for:
- A level floor across the full outer diameter.
- Headroom above the 2 500 mm total height for the canopy and services.
- Power: 220 V AC (±10%), 50 Hz, with a rated power of 600 W.
- Clear space inside and outside so people can queue and leave the drum safely.
- A survey: the final size and opening widths are confirmed on the project drawing.

Revolving door sizes for common buildings
As a starting point, before a survey confirms the final choice:
- Small office lobbies: the smaller revolving door sizes, around 1 800 to 2 100 mm, where floor space is tight.
- Corporate and bank lobbies: mid-range diameters of 2 400 to 2 700 mm with four wings.
- Hotels and airports: larger diameters of 2 700 mm and up, often with three wings for luggage.
- Hospitals and shopping centres: the largest revolving door sizes, 3 000 to 3 600 mm, for wheelchairs and trolleys.
These are guides only; the right diameter depends on the traffic, the users and the space inside and outside the entrance.

Revolving door sizes: frequently asked questions
What sizes do revolving doors come in?
The MC-RD3/4 comes in seven standard internal diameters: 1 800, 2 100, 2 400, 2 700, 3 000, 3 200 and 3 600 mm.
How much floor space does a revolving door need?
The outer diameter is the internal diameter plus 88 mm, so a 2 400 mm door needs a circle of 2 488 mm, plus clear space to queue on each side.
How tall is a revolving door?
Every standard size has a total height of 2 500 mm and a clear passage height of 2 200 mm.
Which size suits a hotel?
Hotels usually choose a larger diameter, because guests carry luggage and the compartments need to be roomy.
Can you make a non-standard revolving door size?
The standard sizes cover most entrances, and the final size and opening widths are confirmed on the project drawing after a survey.
