Automatic door servicing keeps an automatic door safe and reliable, and catches worn parts before they stop the door. MC Automations, our parent company, services automatic doors of all major brands across South Africa, with call-outs booked online and service plans tailored to each site. This guide covers what a service includes, how often to book one, what it costs and how to book.

In this guide
What automatic door servicing includes
On every service visit the technician checks and adjusts:
- Sensors: motion and safety sensors tested, cleaned and set.
- Belt and rollers: wear and tension.
- Guides and track: cleaned, with the floor guides checked.
- Opening force and speed: set so the door is safe for everyone.
- Lock and battery: the electric lock and battery backup tested.
- Safety test: the door must stop and reopen when someone is in the opening.
See automatic door maintenance for what you can check between visits.

How often to book automatic door servicing
We recommend a service every six months as standard, and more often on very busy entrances such as shopping centres and hospitals. Service level agreements are tailored to each site, so the visit schedule matches how hard the door works.
Automatic door servicing costs
- Call-out: R1 450 excluding VAT within 60 km of Laser Park, plus R7 per km beyond, there and back. The first hour on site is included.
- Parts: technicians carry spare parts for all major automatic door brands, and a faulty part can be paid for on site.
- Response: within 24 hours in Gauteng and 48 hours elsewhere in South Africa.

Servicing, repairs and maintenance
Automatic door servicing is the planned visit that keeps the door working. A repair is a visit to fix a fault; see automatic door repairs. Maintenance is the routine care between visits. The MC-125 and MCW-100 operators carry a 24-month warranty on the operator, kept up with regular servicing. Local service pages: Johannesburg, Pretoria, Cape Town and Durban.

Planning automatic door servicing for your site
A good automatic door servicing plan starts with how hard the door works. A clinic or office entrance used a few hundred times a day is well served by a visit every six months. A shopping centre or hospital entrance used thousands of times a day, or a door exposed to dust and wind, needs more frequent visits.
Keep a simple log next to the door: the date of each service, anything the technician replaced and any fault reported in between. It helps the technician spot a pattern, such as a sensor that keeps drifting or a belt that wears quickly.
Between visits, keep the track and floor guide clear of grit, wipe the sensor lenses and report any change in how the door sounds or moves. Catching a worn roller or a loose sensor early is cheaper than an emergency call-out later.
Glass in automatic doors must be safety glass under SANS 10400-N, published by the South African Bureau of Standards.
