In this guide
Planning for the Eastern Cape midlands climate
Aluminium windows and doors Grahamstown buyers should plan for changeable weather with rain in any season, cold winter nights, hot berg-wind days and strong winds. Three practical choices follow:
- Top hung windows can stay open in light rain, so rooms stay aired on wet days. See top hung aluminium windows.
- Let in the winter sun. North-facing windows and sliding doors warm a room on cold, clear days.
- Close up in strong wind. Closing windows fully on windy days protects the hinges and stays.
Aluminium does not rot or swell in wet weather, and laminated safety glass holds together if a pane is cracked.
