In this guide
Planning for the Eastern Cape interior climate
Aluminium windows and doors Queenstown buyers should plan for hot summers with afternoon thunderstorms and hail, cold, dry winters with frost and snow on the nearby mountains, and strong winds. Three practical choices follow:
- Let in the winter sun. North-facing windows and sliding doors warm a room on cold, clear days.
- Top hung windows can stay open in light rain, so rooms stay ventilated through summer storms. See top hung aluminium windows.
- Close up in strong wind. Closing windows fully on windy days protects the hinges and stays.
Laminated safety glass holds together if summer hail cracks a pane, which keeps the opening closed until it is replaced.
