Aluminium windows Boksburg: what to plan for
Boksburg has many 1970s and 1980s homes with original steel windows, plus newer townhouse complexes. Replacing steel with aluminium ends the rust and the painting; in complexes, match the body corporate’s frame colour, which costs nothing extra because every colour is the same price.
Boksburg is on the Highveld: hot summers with afternoon thunderstorms and hail, and cold, frosty winters. Laminated glass holds together if hail cracks a pane, top hung windows stay open in light rain so rooms keep ventilating through summer storms, and north-facing windows catch the low winter sun.
Window types
- Top hung windows: the most popular window in South Africa, hinged at the top, from R1 012. They ventilate in light rain and take fly screens and burglar bars.
- Side hung windows: hinged at the side for a wide opening and easy cleaning, from R1 654.
- Sliding windows: panels slide past each other, ideal where a sash would hit a tap, a path or a burglar bar.
- Vertical sliding windows: classic sash style, from R4 018.
- Fixed windows: for light and views where you do not need air, from R822.
- Casement 28 frame: a slimmer, lower-cost frame for top hung and side hung windows; see Casement 28 windows.
Which frame?
- Casement 28: a slimmer frame for top hung and side hung windows, about 15% less than the 30.5 mm Standard frame. The best value for most bedrooms and bathrooms.
- 30.5 mm Standard: our main frame for top hung, side hung and fixed windows, and the one to choose if you want double glazing.
- Casement 34: a heavier top hung frame that also takes double glazing.
- 44 mm Commercial: used for larger fixed panes and the commercial vertical sliding windows, which are also available in Natural Anodised.
If you are unsure, choose by room: Casement 28 for most of the house, the Standard frame where you want double glazing, and the heavier frames for large panes. Colour never changes the price, whichever frame you choose.

Glass and colours
Every window has 6.38 mm clear laminated safety glass as standard, which holds together if broken and meets SANS 10400-N, published by the SABS. Options include obscure glass for bathrooms, tinted and solar glass for sunny windows, and double glazing on the 30.5 mm Standard frame and Casement 34 top hung windows at R1 952.50 per m². Frames come in White, Bronze, Charcoal, Black and Natural Anodised, all the same price.
Replacing steel windows in Boksburg
Many aluminium windows Boksburg customers order replace old steel windows that have rusted, been painted many times and no longer close properly. Aluminium never rusts or needs painting, seals far better, and comes with laminated safety glass instead of the old float glass. Measure the brick opening rather than the old frame, choose the nearest standard size below it, and your installer packs and seals the new frame in the opening.
Security
Laminated glass cracks but holds together, so getting through it takes time and makes noise, which deters most intruders. Our burglar bars are made to fit the openers and match the frame colour, and top hung windows can be fitted with locking handles. For ground-floor bedrooms and windows facing the street, that combination gives real security without making the house feel closed in.
Aluminium windows Boksburg for new builds and extensions
If you are building, give your builder the window schedule before the walls go up, using our standard sizes, so every opening is built to suit. Standard aluminium windows Boksburg builders order are made in 3 to 5 working days, so they can be ordered once the brickwork reaches window height. Keep the window heads level across each wall for a tidy elevation, and choose one colour for the whole house; every colour is the same price.
Fly screens and burglar bars
Roll-up aluminium fly screens and aluminium burglar bars are made to fit the openers of our windows, in the same five colours, so they can be ordered with the windows and delivered together.
Measuring
Measure each opening at the top, middle and bottom, and at both sides, and use the smallest size. Choose the standard window that fits within it; the actual frame is 10 mm smaller than the catalogue size each way, which leaves the installer room to pack and seal the frame.
