aluminium window installation guide — Coetz Glazing South Africa

Aluminium window installation guide — here is what South African buyers need to know, with supply, installation and service from Coetz Glazing.

Coetz Glazing is supply-only — these guides help you or your installer measure and prepare correctly before your order arrives.

How It Works

  1. Measure your opening (see below).
  2. Choose your product, size, colour, glass and opening direction.
  3. Add to cart and pay securely online, or submit a quote request for bulk/trade orders.
  4. Choose collection from Laser Park or Gauteng delivery at checkout.
  5. We confirm your order and lead time by email/WhatsApp.
  6. Collect or receive your order — arrange your own installer if needed.

How to Measure

Always record dimensions as Width × Height, for example 1800 mm × 2100 mm.

installation guide - Coetz Glazing South Africa
  1. Measure the width of the opening at the top, middle and bottom — use the smallest measurement.
  2. Measure the height at the left, middle and right — use the smallest measurement.
  3. Measure to the brickwork/structural opening, not the existing frame, unless replacing like-for-like.
  4. Note the opening direction you need (left/right/fixed/sliding/top-hung/side-hung).
  5. Check clearance needed for installation.

Please confirm the product size, opening direction and installation clearances before ordering. Coetz Glazing is not responsible for incorrect customer-supplied measurements — see our Terms & Conditions.

Preparing the opening for installation

Before fitting, make sure the structural opening is clean, square and the correct size for your unit. Check the width and height in three places, confirm the opening is level and plumb, and clear away any debris, old frames or protruding mortar. A well-prepared opening is the single biggest factor in a neat, weatherproof result.

Fitting your aluminium windows and doors

Aluminium units should be installed by a competent installer. As a general guide: position the frame in the opening; pack and shim it until it is level, plumb and square (never forced); fix it to the structure at the recommended points; then seal the perimeter with a suitable weatherproof sealant. Sliding and stacking doors must sit on a level threshold so they roll and lock correctly.

Because Coetz™ is supply-only, we don’t carry out installation — but we’re happy to recommend a certified independent installer. See Recommended Installers.

Glass and safety

All standard Coetz™ units are glazed with 6.38 mm Clear Laminated Safety Glass. If you’re deciding on a specification, our Safety Glass Explained guide covers laminated vs toughened and thickness.

After installation: care and maintenance

Aluminium is low-maintenance, but a little routine care keeps frames and finishes looking their best — especially in coastal or high-dust areas. See the Aluminium Maintenance Guide for a simple cleaning schedule.
