Sliding doors

A sliding door is the most popular patio door in Johannesburg. It doesn’t swing into the room or onto the patio, and the panels lock when closed. The patio range is the most affordable. Folding and stacking doors

Folding doors fold the panels to one side to clear almost the whole opening. They are the door to choose when a lounge opens onto a braai area or pool deck. See aluminium folding doors and aluminium stacking doors.

Hinged, French and pivot doors

Hinged doors suit front, back and side entrances. French doors are pairs of hinged doors that open the full width. Pivot doors turn on a pivot instead of hinges. Stable doors split in half so you can open the top and keep the bottom closed, which is handy for pets and small children. See aluminium stable doors.

Patio doors take the brunt of Johannesburg’s summer storms. Three things keep them dry and working:

• Mind the threshold. A sliding or folding door that faces the prevailing storm direction gets wind-driven rain against the bottom track. A covered patio, a roof overhang or a step down outside keeps most of it away.
• Keep the track clear. The bottom track has drainage slots. In the dry winter months, dust and leaves block them, so vacuum the track before the first spring storm.
• Trust laminated glass in hail. All Coetz™ doors use 6.38 mm laminated safety glass. If hail or a falling branch cracks a pane, the interlayer holds the glass in place.

• Johannesburg delivery zone: R650 for standard items and R950 for oversized items, charged once per order, delivered in 1–3 working days from dispatch.
• Rest of Gauteng: R950 standard and R1 350 oversized.
• Collection from Laser Park is free. For large doors you need a bakkie or trailer long enough to carry the frames flat and secured.
• Estates and complexes usually need the driver’s details in advance. Check that a door longer than 2.4 m can get through the gate, up the driveway and into the house.

Aluminium doors Johannesburg: measuring the opening

1. Measure the width at the top, middle and bottom of the opening, and the height on the left, middle and right.
2. Use the smallest measurement, then choose the next standard size that fits. Our doors are made 10 mm smaller than the catalogue size so they fit with packers and sealant.
3. Check the floor finish. The frame sits on the finished floor level, so tiles that are still to be laid change the height.
4. Check the product drawing. It is shown as viewed from inside, so you can see which panel slides or which way the door opens.
