- Measure the structural opening at the top, middle and bottom, and choose the standard width that fits within it; the actual frame is 10 mm smaller than the catalogue size each way.
- More panels means narrower panels that fold into a smaller stack, but more frame lines in the view.

- Decide which side the panels should stack, so they do not block a path, a light switch or a window.

Planning a new opening
If you are building or making a new opening, decide on the folding-door size before the lintel goes in, and give your builder the catalogue size and the frame size, which is 10 mm smaller each way. Plan a roof overhang or a covered patio over the opening; it keeps rain off the tracks and the sun off the glass.
Looking after folding doors
Keep the bottom track clean: vacuum out grit and leaves regularly, because dirt in the track is the main cause of stiff panels. Wipe the frames with mild soapy water, lubricate the hinges and locks with a dry silicone spray once or twice a year, and check the seals before winter.
