Aluminium front doors are the first thing visitors see, so the choice is part looks, part practicality: how much light you want in the entrance, how much privacy, and how wide the opening is. Coetz™ makes aluminium front doors as hinged doors and pivot doors in several designs, with sidelights and toplights to fill a wider or taller entrance. This guide walks through the options, sizes and prices for aluminium front doors in South Africa.

Hinged or pivot?
Hinged front doors
A hinged door swings on hinges at one side, like most aluminium front doors. It is the simplest choice for a standard entrance and comes as a single leaf from 900 to 1 200 mm wide, or as a pair from 1 600 to 1 800 mm wide, in 2 100, 2 400 and 2 600 mm heights. You choose whether it opens in or out when you order.
Pivot front doors
A pivot door turns on a pivot at the head and the floor instead of side hinges, so the leaf swings around a point set in from the edge. It gives a wide, solid-looking entrance and is a popular modern choice. Pivot doors come 1 200 or 1 500 mm wide, in 2 100 or 2 400 mm heights. Because of the way it turns, no opening direction is selected. Our hinged doors vs pivot doors guide compares the two in detail.
Glass, half clad or full clad
The infill decides how much light and privacy your aluminium front door gives.
- Glazed: glass in the full leaf. The most light, the least privacy.
- Half clad: a solid aluminium panel at the bottom and glass at the top. Light at eye level and above, with a solid kick zone.
- Full clad: solid aluminium panels throughout. The most privacy.
Every glazed panel uses 6.38 mm clear laminated safety glass. Laminated glass holds together if it is struck, which matters on an entrance. See toughened vs laminated glass for why.

Aluminium front doors designs
- Classic: the standard design, available glazed, half clad or full clad.
- Large Pane: a larger single area of glass, for a cleaner, more open front.
Hinged doors also come in a more decorative design for older-style homes. Pivot doors come in the Classic and Large Pane designs. Open each product page to see the design drawing before you choose.

| Classic, half clad | R10 556 |
| Classic, full clad | R12 743 |
A wider single leaf costs more: a Classic glazed hinged door at 1 200 × 2 100 mm is R9 563. A double Classic glazed door at 1 800 × 2 100 mm is R13 826. Pivot doors start at R10 494 for a 1 200 × 2 100 mm Large Pane and run to R13 357 for a 1 500 × 2 400 mm Classic.

Adding sidelights and a toplight
A wide or tall entrance does not need a wider door. Sidelights are narrow panels fixed beside the door, and a toplight sits above it, both bringing daylight into the passage. They come fixed or opening, from 300 to 900 mm wide. Read our guide to aluminium doors with sidelights.
Colours
Aluminium front doors come in White, Bronze, Charcoal, Black or Natural Anodised. Bronze and Charcoal cost the same as White, Black about 10% more, and Natural Anodised about 20% more. A dark front door against light walls is a strong look; see aluminium window colours for matching the rest of the house.
Before you order
- Measure the opening in three places and use the smallest figure. The frame is 10 mm smaller than the catalogue size each way. See how to measure aluminium doors.
- Decide hinged or pivot, and for a hinged door, in or out.
- Choose the infill: glazed, half clad or full clad.
- Plan sidelights or a toplight for a wide or tall opening.
- Confirm the colour.
