Single and double hinged doors

Every hinged door is built to open in or open out, and you choose the direction when you order; it is built into the door, so it cannot be changed later. Both directions cost the same. An outward-opening door leaves more space inside and closes against its seals when the wind pushes on it; an inward-opening door suits a door that opens onto a narrow path, steps or a security gate. Every product drawing is shown from inside, so you can see the swing before you order.

Every glazed hinged door has 6.38 mm clear laminated safety glass as standard, which holds together if broken. Doors are one of the places where South African building rules require safety glass, as set out in SANS 10400-N, published by the SABS. Double glazing is available at R1 952.50 per square metre excluding VAT. Frames come in White, Bronze, Charcoal, Black and Natural Anodised, all at the same price.
Choosing a door for each doorway
- Front door: a 1 600 or 1 800 mm double door, or a 1 200 mm single door, for presence; half or full clad for privacy.
- Kitchen and back door: a 900 mm half-clad door gives light above and privacy below.
- Lounge or bedroom to garden: a glazed double door opens wide and lets in the most light.
- Scullery and service yard: a Y-Louvre door under cover for airflow.

Replacing old doors in Sandton

Measuring
Measure the opening at the top, middle and bottom, and at both sides, and use the smallest size. Choose the standard door that fits within it; the actual frame is 10 mm smaller than the catalogue size each way, which leaves the installer room to pack and seal the frame.
