Planning for the Garden Route climate
Aluminium windows and doors Knysna buyers should plan for a mild, humid climate with rain spread through the year, salt air around the lagoon and heads, and the odd strong wind. Three practical choices follow:
- Rinse the frames. Powder-coated aluminium handles sea air well; rinse frames and tracks with fresh water every month or two so salt does not build up.
- Frame the lagoon or forest view. Wide sliding doors or folding doors open a lounge to the deck.
- Clear the drainage. Keep the drainage slots in sliding tracks clear so the year-round rain runs out rather than in.
For aluminium windows and doors Knysna homes, aluminium does not rot or swell in the humid Garden Route air the way timber can, and laminated safety glass holds together if a pane is cracked.
