Planning for the Klein Karoo climate
Aluminium windows and doors Oudtshoorn buyers should plan for hot, dry summers that often pass 35 °C, cold winter nights, low rainfall and dust on windy days. Three practical choices follow:
- Cut the afternoon heat and glare. West-facing windows and sliding doors can take the tinted glass options priced in the online estimator.
- Ventilate at night. Opening windows on opposite walls after sunset cools a house quickly; side hung windows open wide for a strong cross-breeze.
- Keep dust out of the tracks. Vacuum sliding window and door tracks often so grit does not wear the rollers.
A roof overhang or stoep keeps the worst of the summer sun off the glass, and aluminium will not warp or crack in the dry heat the way timber can.
