Planning for the Garden Route coastal climate
Aluminium windows and doors Mossel Bay buyers should plan for a mild coastal climate with rain spread through the year, salt-laden sea air and strong winds off the bay. Three practical choices follow:
- Rinse the frames. Powder-coated aluminium handles sea air well; rinse frames and tracks with fresh water every month or two so salt does not build up.
- Top hung windows can stay open in a light shower, so rooms stay aired on wet, windy days. See top hung aluminium windows.
- Frame the sea view. Wide sliding doors or folding doors open a lounge to the stoep and the bay.
For aluminium windows and doors Mossel Bay homes close to the sea, laminated safety glass holds together if a pane is cracked, and closing windows fully in strong wind protects the hinges.
