Planning for the Green Kalahari climate
Aluminium windows and doors Upington buyers should plan for long, very hot summers, very little rain, strong sun most of the year, dust on windy days and cold, clear winter nights. Three practical choices follow:
- Cut the glare. West- and north-facing windows and sliding doors take the full afternoon sun, so consider the tinted glass options priced in the online estimator.
- Ventilate at night. Top hung windows can stay open for cool night air while still shedding the occasional storm. See top hung aluminium windows.
- Keep dust out of the tracks. Vacuum sliding door and window tracks often, because fine grit wears the rollers.
A wide roof overhang or a covered stoep on the west side keeps the worst of the afternoon heat off the glass.
