Planning for the Eastern Cape coast climate
Aluminium windows and doors Gqeberha buyers should plan for strong winds for much of the year, salt air close to the sea and rain spread through the seasons rather than one wet season. Three practical choices follow:
- Plan for the wind. Close top hung vents and lock sliding doors on very windy days; on exposed walls, smaller vents are easier to manage than large ones. See top hung aluminium windows.
- Open-out doors suit weather-facing walls, because open-in doors are not recommended where wind-driven rain can reach them.
- Rinse the salt off. Near the sea, rinse frames and tracks with fresh water every few weeks so salt does not build up on the powder coat.
Aluminium will not rot or swell in damp sea air the way timber does, and a regular rinse keeps the finish looking new.
