Planning for the Border coast climate
Aluminium windows and doors East London buyers should plan for mild, humid weather with most of the rain in summer, salt air close to the sea and strong winds on some days. Three practical choices follow:
- Top hung windows can stay open in light summer rain, so rooms stay ventilated on humid days. See top hung aluminium windows.
- Open-out doors suit weather-facing walls, because open-in doors are not recommended where rain can reach them.
- Rinse the salt off. Close to the beachfront, rinse frames and tracks with fresh water every few weeks.
Humidity does not harm aluminium the way it swells timber; keep tracks clean so grit and mould do not build up.
